Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is a category of waste,
powered by electricity or through electromagnetic fields.
As electrical appliances and electronic goods are rapidly advancing in
technology, their replacement results in large quantities of electronic waste (e-waste).
E-waste is the fastest growing municipal solid waste stream and it has been estimated that these items already constitute more than 8% of municipal waste and is increasing by 10% every year. The replacement rates in developig countries are much higher. According to a report of the United Nations, the amount of e-waste in India will be increased by 1800% in the year 2020 compared to 2007.
Because electronic devices are usually very difficult to dismantle, the effort to create mono streams and to recover pure metals from the complex alloys is particularly great. And that is exactly where WE as a processor / smelter fit in. WE can deal with WEEE.
