CRITICAL RAW MATERIALS

Reliable and unhindered access to certain Raw Materials is a growing concern within the European Union and across the globe. 

To address this problem, the European Commission has created a list of Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) for the EU. 


Circular Industries is dedicated to fight the Raw Materials scarcity and dependency problem and to take the lead in this.

METALS USED BY EUROPEAN MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

Metal powders are used in a wide range of industries across Europe. For example car manufacturers use Tin (Sn) powder for spray-on applications for corrosion resistance and magnet manufacturers use Sn for high-powered magnets. Powders are also useful in any application where high surface areas are desired, such as fuel cells for electric vehicles and solar applications.

CRITICAL RAW MATERIALS LIST FOR THE EUROPEAN UNION
Materials vital to the EU’s economy and industry are mainly imported from countries outside the EU.

The main parameters, used to determine the criticality of the materials for the EU, are economic importance and supply risk. In 2011, the European Commission created the first list of 14 Critical Raw Materials. The fourth list was published in 2020, now consisting of 30 elements/groups/compounds.
